Keeper’s Bothy

2024

A modest stone outbuilding on the Isle of Skye has been thoughtfully transformed into Keeper's Bothy - a compact yet characterful holiday retreat. Occupying just 25 square metres, the design demonstrates how careful planning can create a space that feels both generous and welcoming.

The bothy accommodates a iving area centred around a wood-burning stove, a small fitted kitchen, an ensuite shower room, and a mezzanine sleeping platform accessed by an oak ladder. Internally, the walls are lined in timber, creating a warm and tactile interior that complements the simplicity of the original stone structure.

The project was designed and built entirely in-house, from the architectural design through to the construction and interior fit-out. Every piece of fixed furniture was custom-made from birch plywood, ensuring each element serves multiple functions while making the most of the compact footprint.

Keeper's Bothy is an example of how sensitive renovation, thoughtful detailing, and bespoke joinery can breathe new life into a traditional building, creating a distinctive place to stay that is rooted in the landscape and craft of Skye.

“Their professionalism and attention to detail make the entire process smooth and efficient. We are very satisfied with the outcomes and look forward to continuing our professional relationship in the future.” Ullinish House
